Vegan Chocolate Donuts with Creamy Chocolate Frosting

fullsizerender-5   Yes donuts. We love donuts if that isn't obvious to you yet. These are particularly good because they are chocolate and who doesn't love chocolate donuts? Seriously. And did we mention that these are vegan to boot so get those vegan friends of yours cause they are going to love these. Throw on those sprinkles to if you're feelin' it too!!  And finally, add a nice hot cup of strong coffee and you are all set......Who says it is the middle of winter and cold!!???   fullsizerender-15  

Vegan Chocolate Donuts with Creamy Chocolate Frosting




For the Donuts -

  3/4 cup all purpose flour 1/2 cup granulated sugar 1/4 cup cocoa powder 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1/4 teaspoon salt 5 tablespoons vegetable oil 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract 1/2 cup water  

For the frosting -

  1 cup powdered sugar 2 tablespoons butter (Earth Balance), melted 2 tablespoons almond milk (or soy) 1/4 cup cocoa powder 1/4 teaspoon vanilla fullsizerender-2  



For the Donuts -

  Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Spray your donut pan with nonstick spray. Stir together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda and salt. Add oil, vanilla and water and continue to stir until smooth. Pour into donut pan and bake 10-12 minutes.  

For the Frosting -

  In a bowl using a mixer (or by hand is fine too, just takes a bit longer to create the smoothness) mix together powdered sugar and butter until creamed well.   Add milk, cocoa powder and vanilla and continue to mix until creamy and well combined. Once donuts are cool, dip them into the frosting to cover tops. Spreading with a spatula works just as well.   fullsizerender-1   fullsizerender-16
