Our Favorite Things: Part 4!

It’s that time of the week again – Our Favorite Things!

Susie’s Favorite Things:

1. Fleur De Sel de Camargue. Sounds so fancy, doesn’t it? I agree, it kinda does….I love this salt. I know what you’re thinking…”It’s only salt already!” …But let me tell you, there really is a difference and it’s a good one. Fleur De Sel de Camargue is hand raked and harvested in France. The name Fleur De Sel comes from the aroma of violets that develops as the salt dries. Only the premium, top layer of the salt bed is used. Each signature container is sealed with a cork top and signed by the Salt Raker who harvested it. Yeah, and despite all that fancy talk it really is all about the taste:-) This particular container was given to me by my sister and brother-in-law however, if you google it you can find it and order it so…..do it, you won’t be sorry and then you can act all french and all while you are using it. So worth it.

2. Bob’s Red Mill Whole-Wheat-Pastry flour. Yes, flour. Why use pastry flour you ask? OK maybe you didn’t ask, maybe you don’t even care but I’m here to tell you anyway so listen up….it will make everything you bake just a little bit lighter, just all that much tender. I love using this flour to hold together those buttery layers in flaky doughs such as croissants, puff pastry, pie crusts and heck, even muffins. I almost always substitute it any chance I can get, if appropriate of course. I often times use Bob’s flour however, generally whole wheat pastry flour is also available in bulk in those stores that carry bulk and can often times be considerably cheaper. I say try it, what do you have to lose?

3. Toast. Yes I said toast. Any kind of toast covered in Earth Balance and eaten in multiple pieces. I love eating this in the evening and calling it dinner. There is nothing like it. OK, sometimes I throw a hard boiled egg on top and call it healthy. My fave right now is a bread is not a fancy bread but a bread made by Franz. It is their Cracked Wheat Sourdough bread and it makes the best, addictive toast ever. Yum.

Rebekkah’s Favorite Things:

1. Sugar Free Torani Syrup. Have you ever had a Skinny Caramel Macchiato from Starbucks? Well, I have – it’s my favorite! (Ok, fine, the Skinny Peppermint Mocha is my favorite, but my year-round favorite is the Skinny Caramel Macchiato.) The point is, everyone needs to buy the Salted Caramel Syrup (regular or sugar free). The coffee will taste just like your favorite latte. Or my favorite latte. Either way, it’s delicious.

2. Bajan Hot Pepper Sauce. My husband and I went to Barbados for our 1 year anniversary and LOVED it. While we were there, we discovered this sauce. It’s mustard with really hot peppers. There are lots of different types, but even the “mild” version is pretty spicy, so watch out – the trick is only using a tiny bit. If you can get the flavor without too much heat, it’s fantastic!

3. Crunchies. Here’s the thing. I really don’t like candy bars and I’m not just saying that. However, I have a Crunchie problem. I discovered them when I lived in London one summer and have loved them ever since. Crunchies are honeycomb covered in chocolate, which doesn’t seem like the greatest candy ever, but for some reason it is. I can’t explain it. Honestly, they are the best thing. If you haven’t tried them, just give them a chance, you won’t be sorry.
