Homemade Speculoos (Cookie Butter) Spread

Hello all! This week we have another recipe for cookies in spread/dip form. This time, Speculoos AKA Biscoff AKA Cookie Butter Spread.

You may remember last year we made Gevulde Speculaas, which was a pastry that was made with the Speculoos (or Speculaas) spices. The spice blend is perfect for winter, using cinnamon and nutmeg and all the flavors you would expect out of something wintery.

You may have also seen Cookie Butter Spread at Trader Joe’s.

It’s all the same thing, and we’ve got a recipe for it!

Ingredients:

  • 1 package graham crackers or gluten free graham crackers (I weighed the package I used and it was about 250 grams)
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil
  • 1/8 – 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon Speculaas Spice (you can find the recipe for the spice here; alternatively, if you don’t have all the components, a mixture of cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger should work)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions:

  • In a food processor, blend graham crackers until very fine.
  • Add in all other ingredients except vegetable oil. Blend thoroughly in food processor.
  • Add in vegetable oil slowly, 1 tablespoon at a time. Add until you reach the desired consistency. This should be about 1/8 – 1/4 cup (or 2-4 tablespoons).
  • NOTE: this spread will be a little grittier than store-bought spread, but it will still be delicious!

    Hii.
I have recently tried to make this recipe and I am appalled by the outcome. The graham cracker to spice ratio was horrid. The entire mixture just tasted like cloves. All family members refused to eat this. I am WARNING all future makers of this recipe to not make it. But nice try amateur!

Hi, um who ever posted that comment is wrong. This spread was sooo good! I loved it so much. I also think that it was a unique twist to add those spices! Nice job, and keep it up!. It was basically the same as the real thing!
