Healthy Granola

Hello all! Do you know who we love? GIADA. I met her and it was amazing. Well, it was me turning bright red and her being super awesome. Anyways, I also think she makes some pretty awesome recipes. I recently found one for granola that didn't use any oil, which makes it much healthier than a lot of other granola. I used her recipe as a starting point, and then made my own alterations. Here's the recipe!

Healthy Granola

Adapted from: Giada's Homemade Cranberry Nut Granola

  •  2 cups oats (not instant)
  • 1/2 cup oat bran
  • 1/4 cup flax
  • 1/2 cup sliced almonds
  • 1/2 cup toasted (or plain) walnuts
  • 1/2 cup sunflower seeds
  • 1 cup dried cranberries
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened dried cherries
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup
  • 2/3 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 1/2 cup pomegranate juice
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees
  2. Combine syrup, brown sugar and juice in pan, stir over medium heat until the brown sugar has dissolved
  3. While sugar is dissolving, combine all other ingredients, except dried cranberries and dried cherries in bowl
  4. When the sugar is fully dissolved, pour the mixture over the dry ingredients
  5. Spread the mixture onto a baking sheet sprayed with non-stick spray
  6. Bake granola for 20 minutes, add the dried fruit, and bake for another 10 minutes (granola should be slightly browned)

I think that this recipe is really adaptable. I think many different types of juices, fruits, and nuts could work! As long as the ratios are about the same, I think you could try a lot of variations. Have fun with it!
