Garlic Cheddar Beer Bread

This is definitely BEER bread, very "beery" with a splash of cheese. It is a easy quick bread that goes great with a hearty summer soup or red beans and rice or since it's summer....a really nice summer cocktail 🙂 As you would imagine, this bread is awesome toasted and drenched in more melted butter. Lots.

Garlic Cheddar Beer Bread

3 cups all-purpose flour 2 tablespoons granulated sugar 1 tablespoon baking powder 1 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder 2 tablespoons honey or agave nectar, slightly warmed. We didn't have either so we used golden syrup - worked just as well! 1 bottle (12 ounces) beer 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a bread pan. IMG_2313 FullSizeRender-2   In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and garlic powder. Using a mixing spoon, stir the beer and honey (or whatever you use) into the dry ingredients until combined. IMG_2328 IMG_2329   Stir in the shredded cheddar until just combined. Here is where you want to be cautious and not over mix the dough. It's tricky cause it's a thick batter. Transfer the dough to the pan, and spread it out with a spoon so that it's roughly level. IMG_2338 IMG_2342 Bake for about 40 minutes. Remove the pan and brush the melted butter on top of the bread. Return to the oven and bake another 5 to 10 minutes, until the top is nice and golden brown and a knife/cake tester/toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean. Let it cool for about 5 minutes. This is best server warm (or toasted later!!) IMG_2346 IMG_2343
